Several years ago at a noisy italian restaurant in north Denver, my family made a private birthday celebraton for me very public. I remember pulling the red and white checked table cloth aside to look under the table to see if there was enough room for me to crawl beneath the table until the storm of attention passed.

Do you ever have a strong negative emotional reaction to someone? You notice an immediate gut feeling that you definitely don't like that person. I'm not talking about someone who is menacing or threatening. I'm writing of a person you have no reason to not like but you don't. This person may be a celebrity you have never met, someone in the grocery store, someone at work or perhaps a family member. Take notice. Many of us resist change because we don't know what will happen. We will endure a situation because we can predict the outcome; we know what to expect.

I used to be a master shopaholic. High end, low end, internet, thrift, home shopping, shopping for other people. I will spare you the retail details here since I blogged about it before.
I bonded with gobs of stuff, until I realized what I was doing. I became aware when I noticed that something felt a little off. Shopping felt a little empty and was never complete. Once I became aware, instead of resolving not to shop excessively (a big resolution), I released the perception that shopping makes me feel connected and joyful. It doesn't. Once I realized overshopping wasn't serving me anymore (a process not an event) I released it (also a process not an event).
Awareness precedes action in releasing what isn't working anymore. Releasing perceptions is more effective for me than shopping around for resolutions.

Thrown objects, physical assaults and verbal hatred.
It seems to me angry people are in pain whether they know it or not. Violent, mean or rude people sometimes direct their energy outward to avoid feeling powerless.
Authentically trying to understand an angry person's feelings and listening to her/him can reconnect them to her/his inner presence and allow 90 seconds for the anger pass.

Why is the idea of winning the lottery so delicious?
I think it is because we imagine that a lot of money (or the perfect relationship, or to be young, etc. - pick your magic wand) would make our life now seem more perfect. Buying tickets gives us something to look forward to. It allows us to imagine a bright future and gives us hope.
I think going through the strategy, hard work and accomplishment of making a lot of money (or working on the perfect relationship - substitute your magic wand here again) adds more texture, adventure and wisdom to our lives.
Living and learning in the moment is more fufilling to me than hoping to be handed the big check.

Being a consumer in the US is unfortunately becoming a defensive strategy.

We devote our resources to food, shelter, safety and loved ones. These are wise choices in continuing our day to day survival.
We have also clarified what we don't want to be: hungry, homeless, ill or hurt.
Sometimes we become so focused on competitive survival and skilled at avoiding what we fear that we don't have much time, energy or money left for our dreams. We might not be clear on what it is we want or how to get it but we know exactly what we don't want. We feel anxious, competitive, tired, stressed and broke. We don't want to be conflicted yet we know there has got to be more.
There is.
As we use our resources for our survival and to focus on our dreams, everything expands. Possibilities open up as we remember to live our dreams. We stop waiting to win the lottery and start creating. We become more connected and appreciative. We find a way.

It's time to devote our time, money and energy to our existence AND our essence.

A long time ago I had a coach tell me "be known for what you stand for rather than be known for what you are against," and it resonates with me.

Limit the resources (time, money and energy) you use to focus on what you feel isolates you, what irritates/annoys you, or what you despise. Do you really want to throw paint on women in fur coats at the mall on weekends or use your intellect to cut your friends to the core with your quick and brutal come backs?

Instead focus your resources (time, money and energy) on what you support, what excites/inspires you, or what you just plain love. Do you want to start, join or be active in a meetup group? Do you want to try a new class or begin a new relationship?

Connect with what you feel a part of of vs. what you don't like. Inclusive collaboration and creativity feel fabulous for everybody.

There is no easy way to say this, uh-no - they won't.
Why not? Because you are enduring your experience not allowing it. You aren't fully present. What if we become as clear on what we do want? Clarity and focus about what we want makes it easier to pursue what gives our life purpose and meaning. (ex - I'm great at connecting people, I paint at sunset, My goal is to climb a fourteener)

Genuinely connecting with and creating a detailed vision of what inspires us gives us a direction to go and energy to get there.

Is there some idea or ability you have always wanted to share but haven't? Not like a secret exactly, more along the lines of something you know you do well, know in your heart or feel strongly about?
I'll go first, let's see. . . sunrises make me smile, I believe 2 or more brains working on a problem or issue together demonstrate an increase in brain activity in the engaged participants (not the distracted people) and I want to learn more about website design.
